You cannot picket at Parliament House- Court to demonstrators

The High Court presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo has indefinitely restrained the Justice 4 Ghana demonstrators from picketing at the Parliament House or anywhere around the premises.

According to the Ghana Police service, it has put in place all the necessary security arrangements to ensure a peaceful demonstration by the group today, December 8, 2021.

In a statement, it further indicates that the demonstrators had earlier indicated to its outfit they would congregate at the Efua Sutherland Park and move to the Parliament House to present their petition. However, earlier checks conducted at both locations revealed that the management of these venues had not been notified.

Therefore the Police Service took the initiative and secured the necessary approvals on behalf of the group to enable them to congregate at the park and present their petition to Parliament thereafter.

Moreover, the statement notes that at a previous pre-demonstration meeting, the group insisted on picketing at the Parliament House till their grievances were addressed. Attempts made by the Police Service to get the leaders to rescind their decision proved futile.

Consequently, the Police applied to the Court to prevent the planned perpetual picketing at the Parliament House to safeguard the security and Public Health of the Members of Parliament, demonstrators, and the general public.
