Supreme Court to hear application for removal of Justice Honyenuga in Opuni case today


    The Supreme Court is expected to hear a motion from lawyers of the former CEO of COCOBOD, Dr. Stephen Opuni concerning the removal of Justice Honyenuga as trial Judge.

    Dr. Opuni is standing trial with some two others for allegedly causing financial loss to the state. He has pleaded not guilty to the charge however, and has subsequently accused the trial charge of passing unfair comments against him even before the start of the hearing.

    The application to the Supreme Court is to ensure that a different judge is assigned to the case.

    Dr. Opuni has been accused of defrauding by false pretences, willfully causing financial loss to the State, money laundering and corruption as well as a breach of the Public Procurement Act.

    The accused persons have been granted bail of GHS300,000.
