A Member of Parliament (MP) from the Mahabubabad constituency in Telangana, Kavitha Maloth was convicted by a special court in Hyderabad on Saturday in a cash-for-votes case.
The MP reportedly bribed voters with cash during the Lok Sabha election in 2019.
She was convicted and sentenced to six months imprisonment by a special sessions court responsible for trying cases of MPs and also fined od Rs 10,000.
However, she was granted bail on Saturday and is likely to appeal the case at a higher court.
The name of Kavitha Maloth came up after a man called Shaukat Ali was caught and arrested by a police flying squad sharing Rs 500 to electorates during the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
Kavitha Maloth, an MP and a member of the Congress Party started her political career in 2009.
